How to use Base Bevel Guides
Comment utiliser les guides de biseau
Description
SIDECUT Base Bevel Guides are designed to create precise 0.5º, 0.7º, 1.0º, or 1.5º base-edge bevels on your skis or snowboards — the easy way. Ever used a base bevel tool that felt like nothing was happening? Not with these.
If your skis or board have ever felt “catchy” or difficult to skid or steer in certain snow conditions, inadequate base-edge bevel is often the cause. This can be frustrating, reduce control, impair skill development, and negatively impact your overall riding experience.
This newer design of base bevel guides is inspired by our upgraded World Cup version and aims to offer a high quality variant at a fraction of the price. It features a replaceable glide plate, but note that it is not intended to be swapped in and out like the WC Base Bevel Guide and will damage your tools if interchanged more than a few times. We suggest purchasing multiple guides if you need to achieve multiple different bevel angles.
- 0.5º – Ideal for advanced to expert racers and slalom skis. Best for those who pure carve the majority of their turns and prefer aggressive, highly responsive turn initiation and maximum grip.
- 0.7º – For those who find 0.5º slightly too aggressive or catchy. Commonly used by younger skiers (under 14), expert all-mountain skiers, and snowboarders. Can also be applied to the first 10–20 cm of the ski for smoother turn initiation while keeping 0.5º through the remainder of the edge.
- 1.0º / 1.5º – Frequently used for SG/DH skis, younger racers, freeride, terrain park, and instructors teaching steering skills. Ideal for easier turn initiation and a less “grabby” feel. Also commonly applied to the first 10–20 cm of the ski while maintaining 0.5º or 0.7º on the rest of the edge. Many recreational skiers prefer 1.0º–1.5º for versatile, all-around use.
All four bevel options are used from beginner through expert levels. Your choice depends on personal preference, skill level, strength, ski or board type, and snow conditions.
Start with 0.5º and test it. If it feels too aggressive, move up to 0.7º, 1.0º, or 1.5º. Remember: you can always increase base-edge angle, but you cannot reduce a 1.0º bevel back to 0.5º without grinding the ski or board flat again.
Most brand-new skis and snowboards should be properly prepared before use — even direct from the factory.
Note: All SIDECUT Diamond Stones, Ceramic Stones, and Hard Stones are designed to fit seamlessly into our Base Bevel Guides.
